Hello Christophe and thanks for the warm welcome.

I am in the UK.

The Railcom project is great, and worked 1st time...unlike some other attempts i have made previously.

My 'layout' is more like a workbench at the moment.  I am still collecting locos, doing sound upgrades and playing with electronics while I finish the building in my garden which will be the permanent home for my layout.

Im thinking about using RocRail to automate - seems to be some good information on this forum about that.

Next job is to work out how to DIY a servo traverser/transfer table.

Thanks,

Joel.

Hello all,

I would consider myself an 'enthusiastic amateur' with electronics and Arduino but have a goal of a fully automated OO railway using as much self-built kit as possible.

I'm a big fan of Railcom and 3d printing.

Looking forward to hanging out here and learning as much as i can.

Joel.

Hello everyone,

I have been experimenting for a while with Railcom and Arduino and was very pleased to discover this project :)

Electronics is not my speciality but i was able to order some PCBs from the supplied Gerbers and assemble a working decoder board.  I would like to make a custom version now but would like to understand if there is anything special about the non-polarised capacitor types.  It looks like there is RC filter with a 1nF at the output of the cutout detection, and then another one with a 680pF at the output of the 7402 where the serial is detected.  Does it matter if these are MLCC, or polypropylene, polystyrene, or anything else?

Thanks in advance, i will keep you posted with my progress...

Best,

Joel.
